My July Favourites

Sharing some of my daily favourites for the month, beauty and non beauty related! July has just sped by and here are some of my must-haves for beach days, running errands, class and other daily activities.

1.  I can’t get enough of the Tazo passion tea. The tea bags are perfect for boiling soothing hot tea for early morning or brewing up cold passion tea lemonade for hot evenings. Caffeine free is just an added bonus!

2. Not a day goes by where I don’t light a Yankee candle. The small candles are perfect for summer when I like to switch up my scent a lot.

3. Marc Jacobs’ Honey has my go-to scent this Summer.

4. Just because Summer is here doesn’t mean working for that Summer bod is over. Having late night classes means getting in a workout before school and these Simple make up wipes alway come in handy.

5. I don’t sweat, I glow… obviously. But too much of that summer glow is not okay! *queue the Clean & Clear blotting sheets*

6. The Colossal mascara is light weight and perfect for hot days. The raccoon look is not cute nor will it ever be.

7. The Maybelline Super Stay lip stain is my all time favourite (drug store) lip stain. It couldn’t be more convenient than during a heat wave a.k.a the weather we’ve been having because melted lipstick is never fun. Plus, patio dates and drinks are so much cuter when your lips actually make through the night.

8. The Olay Fresh Effects lotion has a satin finish and it’s what I’ve been wearing on make-up free days to mimic that summer glow.

9. Another day, another nail colour. Constantly applying and removing nail polish requires extensive nail care, and my Burt’s Bees cuticle cream is a large part in maintaining healthy nails.

10. “You smell good what is that?” “Why it’s my hand lotion from Bath & Body Works of course” My mild case of xerophobia (okay it’s not really that seriously…) prevents me from ever leaving the house without hand lotion and one of my current favourites is ‘Beautiful Day’ from their signature collection.

11. Gotta have my SPF. La Roche-Posay has been my saviour from the sun and all things UV.

12. Nivea lip butter is the reason I haven’t been a victim to chapped lips lately, especially on hot days when you’re likely to suffer from dehydrated lips.

13. Traveling to the city via public transportation means sanitizer, sanitizer and more hand sanitizer, Bath & Body Works just makes it more fun with their summer scents.

Summer’s not over yet! Share some of your summer favourites or items you would like me to review in the comments below and I’ll be sure to check them out :)

Baking is My Therapy

From Betty Crocker and Duncan Hines to homemade recipes, I’ve been baking ever since I could remember. Baking is therapeutic. Whenever I need to clear my mind, I find that playing with flavours and designs really helps with relaxation. Back in middle school, I was know for my cupcakes at bake sales and class parties, and renowned my spot as top baker in high school (my strawberry cream filled cupcakes were the talk of the town). As member of my student council, I would bake for our meetings and social events, which gave me more than enough opportunities to try out new recipes and desserts. The endless amounts of positive feedback encouraged my sister and I to open up a bakery on the side and officially accept orders. We quickly expanded our gourmet dessert selection, to include items like cake pops which have been a favourite for years!

Booties Booties Booties

Wearing my favourite faded jeans and booties for a casual lunch date with some of my Uni friends I haven’t seen in ages. These ankle boots are like no other, with an unconventional heel and pointed toe. I absolutely adore them!  On another note, I just handed in my last paper of the summer semester and finally breathe again…and get back to blogging :)

City of Angels

Today’s casual look sporting the ripped denim trend. I’ve been infatuated with the Chanel espadrilles ever since they came out but soon after, other brands started to release their own versions which just seemed like a more viable choice. These were a sensible pick from Aldo (Oleawiel in “bone”) that I got the moment they hit the shelves and have been loving them…so much so that I went back and got them in black as well :) They’re snug and comfortable and definitely my choice of footwear to navigate the city in!

Black, White & Rouge

I just wrote one of my last exams for the summer semester but I must admit, it doesn’t seem all that close to freedom as I had anticipated. My summer hasn’t exactly been the most eventful…or even feel like a vacation for that matter. While I’d much rather be traveling the world and soaking up the sun, I’ve been here swarmed with work, school and prepping for the LSAT and it’s just becoming overwhelming.

For a much needed care free night out, I dressed up this maxi dress with heels and an evening clutch. I always find myself drawn to the classic black and white but I decided to throw in a little rouge for a change. It’s the perfect look for a night out, delivering on simplicity with a twist of classy meets sassy!

Beautiful Day on Campus

Coming to the realization that there are thousands of people out there with similar dreams, similar goals and similar aspirations – I’ve decided that it’s time I changed my outlook on blogging, or life for that matter. I’ve decided to put myself out there, do things that I wouldn’t normally do or things that I’ve always been too self conscious to do out of shyness or fear of making mistakes. I’ve played it safe so far and although life is comfortable, I have to stop living in my secure bubble and take the opportunities out there waiting to be claimed. So with blogging, I’m aiming to try new things, broaden my outlook, take photographers up on their offer to collab (whereas in the past I’ve always convinced myself it wasn’t a good idea), etc.

Last week, one of my friends came across my blog and my immediate thought was to privatize it along with my social media pages, but it was far beyond damage control. Without anyone in my personal life aware of my blog, I had little to fear because although there is no shortage of negativity online, I could handle it coming from a stranger. An Instagram comment from a user telling me not to wear a particular item of clothing because I have broad shoulders had absolutely no effect on me. However, knowing that people in my life could possibly be reading this, it no longer feels like a safe space to freely express myself. But lets be real, fear of judgement is just another #FirstWorldProblem… and it’s time to own it! If that means shooting for my blog in public locations with a panoramic view of judgemental eyes (like my campus), so be it.
