Garden Party: Bridal Shower

Event planning has always been a passion of mine; from family events as a child, to hosting my own events at my apartment, and now my beautiful sister's bridal shower!

After weeks of planning out every last detail, my vision had finally come together and I could not have been happier with the outcome. A garden party theme was fitting for the occasion, and florals really set the scene. We went all out. I'm talking hundreds, hundreds of roses and wild florals, with even more greenery to tie the room together.

When it came to food, I knew I wanted a grazing table right off the bat. Unlike a traditional seated brunch, the grazing table provided for a beautiful aesthetic and feel more suitable for a larger group. A lot of time was dedicated to perfecting the grazing table, as food placement is key. Not only is it meant to be appetizing, but it is the centrepiece, the focal point of the room. I'd recommend drawing out a blueprint, to perfect a layout you're happy with prior to assembling (it may get a little messy tying to rearrange nuts, soft cheese, etc).

I decided to bake the cake because I wanted every aspect of the event to be very personal. My sister and I have been baking together since we were young, and it was special to be able to create something for her, from a passion we both share. In theme with the garden party, I went for a rustic crumb coat with layers of fresh strawberry and cream, wrapped in Italian Ruscus and Myrtle.

At the top of the drink menu was my personal favourite (a speciality of mine), a grapefruit-elderflower mocktail garnished with fresh rosemary.

A fresh batch of shortbread cookies, topped with royal icing and edible dried florals for the guests.
